Continuing Medical Education Key West

With so much new technology in medicine on the market, continuing medical education is more important than ever. Health care reform cannot be successful if providers do not understand how to implement all of the devices and policies that come along with it,which is why there needs to be an increased value placed on CME. Recently,University Healthcare Berkeley Medical Center was awarded Accreditation with Commendation for six years as a provider of CME for physicians by the West Virginia State Medical Association and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

“This achievement is a testament to the medical community that Berkeley Medical Center is dedicated to providing our physicians with valuable CME opportunities that promote change and quality improvement, ” Anthony Zelenka, president and chief operating officer at Berkely Medical Center, told the news source. ”Our CME Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. James Brown and Physician Education Coordinator Carol Joseph, has done exemplary work. We are extremely proud of this achievement.”

Examining CME
The American Medical Association stresses to providers that when they are choosing CME activities, they need to be sure that the credit is being awarded by an accredited CME provider. In order to determine this, the organization recommended that providers check the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award Booklet.

The Accreditation with Commendation award from the West Virginia State Medical Association and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education is not the only award that physicians can achieve for engaging in CME. For example, there is also an award offered by the AMA to doctors who have shown a passion for knowledge by going above and beyond their traditional education.

The AMA explained that providers who have shown a commitment to patient care through CME deserve to be recognized for their commitment to staying on top of all the latest advancements in the health care field.

The AMA has been handing out the Physician’s Recognition Award – which acknowledges CME among doctors – since 1968. In order to qualify for this award, physicians must apply themselves. The AMA explained that physicians should consider applying for this award because winning it will demonstrate to coworkers and patients a commitment to expanding knowledge and improving skills.
