How much education and training does one with ZERO coding experience need to get a paying job as a programmer? - Quora

It depends on what you want to do.  If you want to do web or app development, you likely will not need a formal CS education.  If you want to do more math-intensive programming such as AI, NLP, or ML or system programming like kernel development, you will probably want to get a B.S. or Masters in CS.
