Calgary Postgraduate Medical Education
Welcome to Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) at the University of Calgary.
The Office of PGME provides the infrastructure ensuring the support, development and review of all residency training and education in the Faculty of Medicine. It is the focal point for the vast network of inter-related partnerships, policies and agreements in place to ensure that Residents move through their years of training successfully.
Our recent growth in both accredited Residency Training Programs and Residents is due to increases in the undergraduate (UME) class size and the Alberta International Medical Graduate (AIMG) Program. Our vision is to build for the future. Expansion will continue to accommodate increasing UME numbers until at least 2015.
To educate today’s residents to become tomorrow’s physicians, our five-year plan is to concentrate our resources to support and recognize clinical teaching, increase our Programs’ research capabilities, integrate competency-based curricula in postgraduate medical education, and foster leadership development.
On behalf of our PGME Office Team, Program Directors and Administrators I want to recognize our partnerships with the Alberta Ministry of Health, Alberta Health Services, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and the Professional Association of Resident Physicians of Alberta, who continue to provide us with the supports needed to realize our goals. Together we can build healthy communities through high quality, innovative postgraduate medical education.
